Cristiano Ronaldo got his name on the scoresheet as Portugal beat the Czech Republic in their opening game of Euro 2024. The Portuguese started the game brightly and took the lead in the 15th minute when Ronaldo headed home a cross from Diogo Dalot. The Czechs grew into the game as the half went on, but they were unable to find an equaliser. Portugal extended their lead in the second half when Joao Felix scored a sublime goal from outside the box. The Czechs never gave up and pulled a goal back late on through Patrik Schick, but it was not enough to prevent Portugal from taking all three points.

Portugal's Qualification Hopes Boosted

The win puts Portugal in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stages of Euro 2024. They now have three points from their opening game, while the Czech Republic are bottom of the group with no points. Portugal will face Turkey in their next game, while the Czech Republic will play Spain. If Portugal can beat Turkey, they will be guaranteed a place in the last 16.
