International Criminal Court: Justice for the World's Gravest Crimes

What is the International Criminal Court (ICC)?

The ICC is an intergovernmental organization and international tribunal that investigates and tries individuals charged with the gravest crimes of concern to the international community, including genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and aggression.

Mission and Jurisdiction

The ICC's mission is to end impunity for these heinous crimes and to bring justice to the victims. It has jurisdiction over crimes committed by nationals of or on the territory of states that have ratified the Rome Statute, the treaty that established the Court in 1998. Additionally, the ICC can investigate and prosecute crimes referred to it by the United Nations Security Council.
